Week 4!

Hello all!

Sooo crazy our schedule got switched up because of spring semester and since the teaching jobs here are technically an on campus job we adjust to them.  I now have class at 7 in the morning dinner at 4 in the afternoon and no waffle temple Tuesdays... so ya not in love with the new schedule but hey I only have 2 more weeks of it:) so my new P day is Monday!

My life is extremely repetitive... I do the same thing everyday but I have really been focusing on the language this week and trying to expand my knowledge. We had another "district inventory" yesterday but this time with the branch president because he talked to my companion and I about our district and we were like we are kind of struggling.  So he came into help us and ended up calling a new district leader.... the old one thinks the gift of tongues will save him in the field.  I politely told him yesterday that God can't bring something to your remembrance you have never learned... for example the subjunctive tense in French.  He was not all that pleased with my response but I just smiled and said well if you need help with the language you know where to find me:) so ya things in our district are kind of the same which is unfortunate but as I have been told in my prayers and scripture study every time I express frustration to the Lord... "The only person you can change is yourself."  Sooooo that is what I have been trying to do and my lessons went SOOOO well this week.  My companion’s French is coming along sooo well! I have had her start off our lessons and give the first vision story and then I follow up with the questions and clarification.  The other day we were teaching our teacher who was actually a sub and my comp started to cry when she gave the story and the spirit was sooo strong.  Her French was broken but the simple testimony of it all was so powerful.  This sub has been an answer to prayer because she has worked with our companionship specifically and told us what we can do to progress while the rest of the class remains a little stagnant.  We got done with our lesson and she was like wowwww that was amazing.  The spirit was so strong. She uses really difficult vocabulary and we got so stumped by her a couple of times in lesson and I haven't been stumped once yet... it was a humbling experience. But I loved it because she points out the places we need to read in the scriptures to find a good answer to a difficult question or she points out grammatical errors we make and she is always like, "don't make that mistake next time:)" she has been great I am sad to see her go.  We are getting new teachers this week because of spring semester so it should be a nice mix up maybe?

Then this week in TRC... which is the thing when we teach members who speak french and it’s like visiting/home teaching appointment? ya'll remember that?? ya well this week I got my friend Anna. It was fun to teach her and our lesson was on revelation through the Book of Mormon.  My new favorite scripture is one I found for the lesson! It’s 2 Nephi 31;3! Go read it its so good! Anyways she had her mission call and was just about to go open it! I am like ahhhh its the best thing ever! She did study abroad right before me in Paris and when I got my call she is like you literally got my dream mission.  I am like I know I got everyone's dream mission including my own:) she got called to temple square.... which is super cool but I can imagine she was hoping to speak French! But I am excited for her and I have heard she is excited about it!

Then on Sunday we heard from two amazing speakers.  We heard from Sister Oscarson for Relief Society and she is the new young women's president.  She was soooo great! We always go out and meet them afterwards and my comp is a rockstar because her dad is Elder Richardson of the Sunday School presidency and so she knows them all and I am the awkward companion in the background like star struck that they see the prophet of the Lord like all the time! haha its great! But anyways she talked to us about Jacob 5.  It was such a good talk but at the end I don't remember a lot about what she said only the fact that she was blown away by how many sisters were here and it gave me so much satisfaction to be sitting among all these wonderful girls who heeded the call of the prophet.  She said we were an inspiration to her and her program because the girls she has stewardship over will be the next us.  I thought that was cool.  Also fun fact about her... she got called to be a mission presidents wife when she was 25!!!!!!!!!!!! 25!! can you believe that!! She was pregnant! they served in Sweden... like how crazy is that! then that night we heard from elder Allen who is the managing director of the missionary department! he was soooo hilarious! Like sooo funny and told all the Elders that they might as well write their girlfriends off now before they have the chance to do it to them! haha and he was like you sisters all probably left guys and i bet they all wait for you:) haha it was soooo funny! Beau Alan keep waiting please:)He talked about having one foot home and one foot in the mission... he said by the end of this week I want all of your feet to be here! He read over Alma 26:27 and we never even got through the whole verse because he kept stopping after every little phrase! it was sooo good! I loved it! He got me way pumped to be better this next week!

Anyways my parting thought is from my personal study this week! 2 Nephi is sooo great! Sooo full of good stuff! Chapter 8:12,13 it made me realize after hearing all these devotionals about the lengths the church is going to preserve the name and rep of the church that we are at serious war with the adversary and never at any time have the organizations of good and evil been so strong.  The Lord worries about each of us everyday that the devil will win but at the same time instills in us such faith that we will come out on top.

Ally cat look at 2 Nephi 8;24--- you wear the beautiful garment now:) use them as a protection against Satan and unlike me get used to them faster and they will be such a blessing to you! Anyways I love hearing good thoughts from you all! I love the updates in your letters and you all always give me such encouragement and an uplifting thought at the end of your emails and dear elders! I love it so much it makes my day! Thank you all for your love and support! Wish you all a good week!

Love,

Soeur Mod (my district and teachers have resulted to this name because the full thing is a struggle to almost all of them) The guy at the temple today struggled SOOO badly with my name and when I left he was like you will find the cutest young man with the last name of Jones and he winked:) I was like ahhh I already did but his last name is not Jones hahah!

PS. we did proxy sealings today for little kids because that is the only we can do as missionaries when it comes to sealings and it was the coolest thing!! Loved it so much! Even though I didn't get a temple waffle afterwards:)
McCall and her companion on vacuum duty:)

McCall trying Spicy Cheetos for the first time! (she hated them..)

Not usually a soda drinker.. looks like the MTC will change some people.

She was never a morning person.. and the missionary wake up is wearing her out:)

Week 3!

Hello All!

Again I want to thank you all for the sweet dear elders I get throughout the week! They make my day! It’s so fun to hear from all of you and hear all the wonderful things going on outside the gates of the MTC! haha we forget that life goes on out there! Like in Boston for instance.... hello terrorist attack and none of us knew until last night when my roommate's boyfriend sent us a recap of the story! I cannot believe that!!! ahhhh made me grateful to be in the safe brick cinderblock walls of the MTC:) and so grateful that the people I love the most are safe on the West coast instead of the East coast! West side for life:)

Anyways a recap of the week! So my P days are on Tuesdays and like in the field after 6 pm they are over and its back into church clothes and we have a devotional that night.... well guess who came to devotional last week? They don't tell you until you are seated in your seat and there is one big gymnasium that you can pile into or you can just go to the overflows... we need those because its so crowded in here and every Wednesday it gets worse and worse! So we were like lets go to the gym because on Sunday it was Vocal point from BYU which was way cooler in person since they were singing.  So we are sitting in our seats and in walks Elder Scott!!!! ahhhhhh! We were all freaking out the crowd went so quiet and you just heard soooo many whispers like "Oh my gosh its Elder scott" A girl next time me I know from BYU and she is like I have been here for 8 weeks and haven't had any general authority! Feeling pretty lucky right now:) He talked about personal prayer and the gift we have to talk to our Father in Heaven every day.  He bestowed an apostalic blessing upon the MTC which I thought was cool because I hadn't heard of that before annnnndddd he closed his talk and we sang the closing hymn and as the sister was getting up to pray he stopped her and began to share more thoughts.  It was the craziest thing because we were all ready pens and papers to take notes thinking it was going to be this crazy epiphany thought he had during the song and it wasn't.  He literally repeated some of the same lines he had throughout his talk.  It made me think of how God repeats something to us when He wants it to get through our head.  I have been striving every since his talk to make my prayers more meaningful and take time after them to stop and ponder about what I am thankful for and what I asked for. .

My days go by pretty much the same way everyday except for on Thursday this week we started TRC.  I am not quite sure what that stands for I should probably look it up but its an hour out of our day that we come and teach volunteers in the valley that know French and come to the MTC to be taught by the missionaries.  So we just give short 20 minute visiting teaching like lessons to members and leave.  The trick is you have to get to know them first and listen for the spirit to prompt you as to what to share with them.  It is THE BEST THING EVER! I love teaching members who I can talk freely about the gospel and not have to define words they may not understand or simplify the truths because its the first time they are hearing them.  You just get to chat with someone about the gospel but in
French!!! I love it! I look forward to it every week!

In gym this week we have been playing quite a bit of volleyball and I must say... I think I missed my calling in life! Tell Cami Richan I may or may not be recruited by Airforce when I get back... I am pretty good.  The polynesians let me and my companion play on their team:) now granted my companion is like the sports star and my friend plays with us too and she played like 7 years of club team soooo they might be the reason the polys allow us on their team but I can play a mean serve! :) So yeah probs trying out for BYU when I get back... or for the four square team! Made it all the way to king square a couple of days ago and was there for quite some rounds if I must brag:)

Then on Sunday we had so many meetings because we were officially called as the Sister Training Leaders so all day we were in meetings which was fun but we didn't get to go to music and the spoken word before relief society which is like the best part of the week since we don't get to listen to music in here! Last week they sang a song from Sound of Music and I have decided I must see that movie when I get home... My companion thinks I am crazy since I have never seen it!

There has been some problem with flirting between the Elders and sisters and we were supposed to be on the look out to stop it.... haha oh man so funny! We have been trying to meet with all the sisters in our branch to get to know them and such.  Its crazy when we sat down with each of them after they would leave we would talk about them and take notes on what they said about their homesickness, the language, their district anything so we could help them.  It’s crazy the more we talked to them we just looked at each other and thought.... France is getting the cream of the crop all these sisters are so amazing in their own way and have such a zeal for the work.  Surprisingly too a lot of our branch is 21 year old girls.  So yeah we are enjoying our calling a lot right now! In about a week we get about 25 new missionaries French speaking so our branch will get about half of those! Then that night BYU's Men's chorus came and sang for the devotional.  They were really great I thoroughly enjoyed them!

We leave 3 weeks from yesterday.... its sooo crazy time is going so fast! You can tell we have been in here awhile though all of us are starting to get antsy to leave, and get out there to France.

My companion and I, our lessons have gotten so good! Instead of me talking the whole time we totally play off each other and bounce the lesson back and forth so we are both speaking 50/50.  It has been a goal of ours to do that and it’s gotten so much more fluid in our lessons. Anyways I am full from the temple food... if you all haven't tried the Provo temple's breakfast... you must! Its to die for and I am in a food coma as I write this so I am going to take a nap but I love all of you so much and am soooo grateful for the love and support! Keep the letters coming and treat my mom well this weekend for her birthday! Love you all!

Week 2!

Hello all!

Ok So I promise not to make this email as long:) My days are starting to run together and we do the same thing pretty much everyday so the newness has worn off.  So lucky for you I don't have AS much to say:) haha but here we go!

Thank you to everyone who has sent me letters and dear elders! Mail is the best thing every and I have a few darling Elders that get 50 perfumed saturated letters from their girlfriends and I am like really? haha but I am happy for them! They might as well enjoy it while it lasts:) haha just kidding that was mean.

Claire bear I am giving you a huge hug in my head right now:) so as you read this think about it too! I love you loads and you are the most darling 15 year old I know! Make sure to pull something together for Mom's birthday coming up! Remember family that is coming up in like 10 days and I am not there to sort it out.... so sort it out! I will send a letter with ideas:) Mom your packages are the best! The trailmix idea was genius! Dad your letters are always inspiring

So this week has been amazing! The timing in the MTC is sooo warped! It feels like the days are long but the weeks fly by and I can't believe I have been in here 2 weeks already.  I don't know how I will ever be ready for the field in a month! There is so much to learn! The French is really coming along though so that is good! My goal this week is to not come off as a know it all and try not to correct the teacher.... I have caught him a few times teaching french balsphemy:) haha

So we had to teach an investigator from the second day into the MTC until this last Friday and it turns out the person we were teaching becomes your night time teacher!  He served in Paris and our morning teacher (the one with the blog) served in Lyon and the Elders in my district are going to Paris and the sisters to Lyon so its fun to have teachers from both.  They are both super awesome and have totally different teaching styles so it works for everyone.

We also created a twitter feed on the back of our door and gave everyone usernames... I don't know if I said that last time but it is getting really full! We will have to add on.  Our teacher is like you guys are nuts leave social media at home! I am like neverrrrr! haha my companion and I joke all the time about him showing us his instagram feed! Feel free to send me throwback Thursdays guys I would love them! but the quotes are really funny I have a picture on my camera I will send it home soon!  But during class one night our teacher, told us this about the mission, "It's like your running and you don't know where the finish line is."  It’s a perfect analogy for mission life.  I wake up everyday at 6:30 get ready by 7 read scriptures in French with my district until 7:30 eat, class at 8 for 3 hours and then personal study time and then lunch.  Then we have gym and this rosetta stone thing online to work on our French and then additional study time then dinner.  Then we have another teacher from 6-9 and then plan until 9:30 and then go to bed.  Everyday we have that and by my night time class I am like I have been on high speed all day how will I make it through class.... but alas all of the sudden its over and I am rushing to bed and I am alseep before my head hits the pillow! The days are long but then its night time and your like where did the day go!

I have been working on making my personal studied more effective so I try to write a question down about how I can be better in a certain area and then try to find it as I search my scriptures.  I have like 3 pages of notes by the time I am done reading and I only get like 2 or 3 chapters in! Its been crazy effective and I have tried to do that with preach my gospel as well so I am very familiar with the content in the lessons.

Sunday was the highlight of my week! We have sacrament meeting at 7:30 am.... yes I want no complaining for 9 am church ever again! haha and we all have to prepare a talk in French about a certain topic and then at the beginning of sacrament bishop asks 2 people to give theirs.  So you don't know if It’s you until he announces it! Yeah its nerve racking! Sister Edmunds came and spoke to us! She was incredible!!!!!!! She was so funny and sooo spiritual at the same time! I was crying and laughing like the whole time because I felt the spirit and then she cracked a funny joke! She just pumped us up to serve as sisters because her and her companion were the first sister missionaries in the Phillipines way back when and she was said, "you think your missing your loved ones now.... wait until you leave your loved ones there. That will nearly kill you!"  It got me so pumped to get out there! She called us the "Sister Tsnumai" and how we are taking control of the work and demanding for an exponential growth in the church! It was great! Then we came back to study and our bishop pulled my companion and I out and asked us to be the new "Sister Training Leaders" which is like the zone leaders but for sister missionaries.... ya we have no idea what we are doing as far as day to day still and now we are supposed to interview the girls and be to the meetings and give reports and reprimand people for wearing to tight of clothes and we are like whatttttt???? We haven't even been here 10 days! But we are excited for the challenge and my companion as I have said is actually perfect so she will be great and I will rise to her level:) Then we have a fireside every Sunday night, the director of media in the missionary department spoke to us. He was AMAZING!!!  He talked about hastening the work and the efforts the church is making electronically to do this.  You guys have to go look this up! During Christmas the church bought a bunch of billboards IN TIMESQUARE and in the subway stops and buses and pasted "Chirstmas is... (fill in the blank)" signs all over the city.  They were promoting mormon.org.  They said the views to the site sky rocketed and he said they had a twitter feed that people could come comment and fill in the blank! Its hard to explain how cool it was that's why you guys should you tube it or something.  They are doing the same thing in London because the Book of Mormon play that just opened up in March they are attacking London with mormon.org signs.  They bought double decker buses, tube ads everyone in the train stations, billboards you name it! They have gotten TONS of referrals for the missionaries! Its crazy how "socially connected" the church is becoming and I think this is only going to speed up the work! The missionaries in London are TWEETING and following the feed to meet with people and stuff!!!! its crazy! PLEASE GO LOOK IT UP! for my sake! We were all like cheering and pumped! It was awesome! Then we watched the Joseph Smith movie! That is such a good movie! It makes my small 18 month sacrifice seem like nothing compared to what Joseph Smith and the saints endured!

Anyway I am getting chatty and this will eventually turn into the longest email ever again so I just want you all to know how much I love you and that I am trying to responds to your individual letters because they really mean a lot to me! This experience is honestly indescribable and I wish I could express how amazing it is but it’s a "you had to be there" kind of thing! So thanks for the prayers and support I hope all of you are doing well and life is treating you well! Love you guys!

Week 1!

Bonjour Family and friends!

A few things so that if you don't make it to the end of this LONG email you will know... Grandma thank you soooo much for sending me that note.  I got it my second day and it was soooo great! The quote at the end was perfect! My companion and I wrote it down and look at it all the time! Thanks for all who have sent me mail I love it sooooo much please don't stop!! Please don't send me candy I am never hungry in here because I sit all day I don't burn enough calories to eat enough:) Beau... use dear elder:) AK MOD WRITE ME!!!!!!! EVERYONE ELSE HAS WRITTEN APART FROM YOU! even smash wrote me and you haven't! I want to tell you what your in for! This place is crazy I wish I was here when you got here it would be so fun! I love you all!

I have limited contacts so read aloud to those who care or feel free to send this email on to whoever! Butttt the MTC is SOOOOO great! I will be honest my enthusiasm has died slightly only because I think the preservatives in the food here actually suck the energy from you... or learning as much in one day is taking it out of me:) either or! But ya this place is great! The wake up in the morning is a tad early :) but I am a morning person (for Beau) so its all good!  My companion is Sister Richardson and she is probably the greatest thing to ever happen to me apart from Beau! She is seriously so great! I can't fault her in any way... I tell everyone she is perfect because she is! I LOVE HER!! We have to make ourselves stop talking at night so we stop laughing because just hearing her laugh sends me into hysterics! The Elders in my district are sooooo hilarious oh my gosh! Our district leader got his appendix out on Monday! Can you believe that! His stomach was hurting and I was like you probably have appendicitis and he went to the hospital and he did so they did surgery and he was back the next day! Unreal! Guess what... I wrote you all the first night I was here because the Mission president told us to write our family to let them know we were ok and I addressed it to myself so like 2 days later I got a letter and I was sooo stoked and I looked and was like... that looks like my handwriting! haha so embarrassing! It’s been a district joke and Sister Richardson makes sure I put the addresses in the right spot every time I send a letter now! So this is going to be the longest email of your life so feel free to exit out at any time but for my mom's sake I will give a day by day since I have been here.

Wednesday-- After I said goodbye at the curb I went in and they were all really nice and guided me through all these rooms picking up all kinds of stuff.  I got to the table that had your MTC ID card which looks like your BYU card and they didn't have mine... I was like oh it's ok its because the MTC didn't know I was coming today and they just looked at me funny... I started laughing! So we had to make me a card and then this sweet sister showed me my room and got me all my books.  We lucked out and got a room with only 4 girls instead of 6 so we all have our own closets and drawers and its not crowded at all.  The Lord has really spoiled me with my companion, roommates, and room situation.  He could make the bathroom a little nicer for me but I am not complaining:) Then we went to a bunch of seminars all day getting acquainted with the MTC and we met the Mission presidents.  They are soo sweet! They talked about putting away childish things (1 Corinthians 13 I think) and obeying.  I felt peace when I heard that because I was afraid I would get in here and think about all the things I am missing out on at home but in the grand perspective of things the childish things I miss are not important.  Missing my family and friends is important not my boat, the bachelor, and music :)

Thursday-- We had classes all day about being missionaries and what that actually meant.  They were all really interesting actually and I didn't fall asleep once! I was riveted by all of the tools and resources we have as missionaries.  My favorite quote from the day is from Elder Holland, "When it stops being your lesson and becomes His."  I am actually much better at French then i thought and we had to teach our first lesson on FRIDAY... ya like two days after we got her (buckle up akmod #bulgarian) but I have to try and find a balance between teaching by the spirit and teaching in French.  I have the vocabulary but I am trying to recognize and follow the promptings of the spirit. So my lessons stop being mine and become the Lord's.  The problem I have is I know my investigator is Mormon and is NOT from France like his bio says he his.  His accent isn't thick enough.  I am pretty sure he is just a volunteer from BYU but they want us to think he is really investigating the church so we try harder.  Which is good but it’s hard when you know he is Mormon.

Friday-- we had class all day and it was rather frustrating because it was all in English because our teacher had to take a test and couldn't make it.  I felt like the fill in guy was just trying to use up the time... you know how it is when you have a substitute teacher in school?  That's how it was at the MTC and my companion got really frustrated that day because we had our first lesson and I was able to follow the whole conversation.  She wasn't able to say anything because I understood everything and she didn't.  I felt bad because I knew she wanted to say stuff but she didn't have the words. I heard her crying in her bed that night because she was frustrated how much further ahead I am but her accent is really good and she is really good at picking it up fast! I am helping her out:) Not to sound cocky please don't take it that way but I have this feeling that I am in here 6 weeks to help her get the language fast.  Because it's a cake walk for me in here so far.  I know it will pick up but I am using this time to learn preach my gospel because my companion knows her stuff when it comes to preach my gospel but I don't.  We have different strengths that help us meet in the middle! Like I said... we are a perfect match!

Saturday-- We had a service project at 6! Sooo early! The guy asked who wanted to volunteer first and I raised our hands and he was like brave souls... you guys just have to vacuum the rest of you have to clean bathrooms.... hahah I was like yessss!!! Vacuum it is! It took us like 20 minutes and we were done:) Sister Richardson was very happy with me! Then we had conference and I was so nervous to watch all sessions consecutively in fear I would fall asleep but every talk captivated my attention! This years conference was sooooooooo good! Oh my gosh taking notes and not lounging on the couch was a whole new experience.  I actually started falling asleep at the beginning of Saturday afternoon and I was like ohhh no Uchtdorf is only giving the statistics of the church and I am already loosing it! I started praying for the desire to stay awake because I didn't even want to try to stay awake I wanted to lay my head on my companion's shoulder and go to sleep but as soon as the talks started I all of the sudden woke up and ate a mint and took a drink and I was like wired... it was the craziest thing! Small little miracles like that happen everyday.  I could never keep up this schedule at home I would have to have a nap but I have energy all day and I CRASH at night.  That is if sister Richardson doesn't make me laugh until late!

Sunday- What was your favorite talk from conference?  I loved Sister Dalton's I am SOOOO sad she got released! Oh man she is sooo great! I loved all of Sunday morning! Sister Wixom's talk about children was so perfect because it helped me remember why I am here.  I am here to preach the gospel but I am here also to be a better missionary in my own home for my kids later in life! Her talk was so good! All parents should read that one again! Claire bear couldn't agree with you more! Elder Holland is the MAN!! Seriously his testimony is so powerful I hope I can testify like that someday! He is extraordinary! That night we had a fireside and I was thought there was noooo way anymore spiritualness could be shoved into me but I was wrong.  Vocal point came from BYU its an all male singing group and sang some songs and it was seriously amazing! I can't even tell you how great they were! They started out with come thou fount and I thought I was going to die! There is no music allowed in the MTC so it was so nice to hear some! They closed with I need thee every hour and it was the most extraordinary thing I have every heard! You guys should try and see them! Seriously! And one of the guys in it was in my Liberty Square ward so sister Richardson and i knew him and we saw him before it and met his wife.  It was fun! We went on a temple walk on Sunday as well and it was sooo nice to be outside!

Monday-- everything starts to become the same thing! We have class in the morning for 3 hours and then personal study then lunch.  Then we have language study in the afternoon and then gym and then dinner and then we teach our investigators at night and then planning and then bed! I do that every day but surprisingly it goes by fast! The days totally run together! My P day is Tuesday but I went to San Fransisco on Tuesday! I thought I might see dad at the airport but I didn't:( I was hoping for it! I had to wake up at 4:15 am to catch the plane! The consulate only took like 30 minutes so we went to the pier and had lunch and then went to Ghiradelli Square! It was sooo fun! We just played in San Fransisco all day! Then we went to the golden gate bridge! Everyone wanted to go back to the airport and wait for our flight but I sat up front with our Phillipino driver and whispered, "don't take us back yet take us one last cool place." So he took us to the golden gate bridege:) haha he was trying to teach me tologa or whatever and I coulnd't do it and he made fun of me all day! It was hilarious!

So anyway there is a day by day! I missed my first p day which was a bummer because I heard its sooo nice and relaxing! So watch for my emails on Tuesday but DON'T HESITATE TO SEND DEAR ELDERS! :):):) it is soooooo nice getting mail on the mission I had no idea! Thank you for the package mom!! I loved it! I told my district I am like if this is filled with candy sandals is going to be getting a interesting email:) hahaha but it was granola and protein bars:) you are the best!!!! And my coat c'est parfait! The conference note was my favorite! I loved it! I am trying to cover everything obviously based on the size of this email but i am sure I forgot something! I love it here so much and I love my companion.  Going to San Fransisco and passing our exit there and back on the bus was kind of hard.  That was my first wave of homesickness because I realized how long 18 months is going to be.  I was actually excited to be back in the sheltered MTC where the distractions of life can't get in and make me miss home!  I am sending you my camera card this week so you can see my first week!

Love you all sooooo much! Promise it won't be this long the rest of my mission! You all are great! Love you!

McCall and her companion are freezing!

McCall and her darling companion Sister Richardson

Oh Sister Mod:)
